German planetary astronomer Heike Rauer (b. 1961) is known for her observational work on cometary comae, in particular that of comet C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp). She is currently working at the Institute of Space Sensor Technology and Planetary Exploration in Berlin on a project to search for extrasolar planetary systems.
