The boys group of the 7th class science students from Kvarngärdesskolan being told about the Westerlund telescope. Clouds prevented any astronomical objects to be seen.
The group were welcomed by Lic Ola Karlsson of the Uppsala Astronomical Observatory. The students had the telescope optics explained and were told of the asteroids, extrasolar planets and galaxies that are the usual objects of interest for this instrument. The technology of the telescope control room was also explained. On the platform surrounding the dome a small portable telescope was used to give a feeling of the resolving power by watching the clock on Danmark's Church, about 5.5 kilometers to the east of the telescope.
